This project was to showcase our skills learned in Level Design and to further develop our level design skills. For this project I was tasked with designing a level for a 3D platformer and was given a game design document to review before creating this level. I began by creating a basic blockmesh level and playtesting it thoroughly to iron out any misaligned meshes, long/short jumps, and various other issues that hindered the levels flow. After creating my first blockmesh level iteration, I added multiple gates, valves, chests, and collectibles to increase the amount of player interactions and increase player engagement within specific points in my level. I set most gates and valves up by using timelines that trigger upon interaction and adjusting the curve to create a more impactful animation. To further increase the immersion I added some minute interactive details like letters to help pull the player into the story and create more environmental story telling. To increase the impact of my valves and gates I also added cinematic cutscenes with camera shake to show the force of the cave collapsing in and the friction of the rock doorway sliding open.
